MamaYe is about making life-saving changes for Malawi’s mothers and babies. It is a campaign to change fatalism to hope; helplessness to action; maternal survival from side-issue to political priority; and best guesses into hard facts.

We know change is possible because every day, Malawian men and women like you take action that makes a change, and saves lives. The neighbour that takes a woman to the clinic in the middle of the night; the government officials that keep supplies flowing; the students that donate blood; the journalists that keep this issue alive; the politicians that prioritise maternal health; the community groups that keep track of pledges by politicians; and the young women training to be midwives, who will devote their lives caring for mothers and babies.

MamaYe celebrates the many individuals and organisations across Malawi who work tirelessly to make pregnancy and childbirth safer, so that others can be encouraged and inspired to do the same. You too can be a MamaYe hero or heroine.

Evidence for Action

MamaYe is a campaign initiated by Evidence for Action, a multi-year programme which aims to improve maternal and newborn survival in sub-Saharan Africa. Funded by the UK Department for International Development, it focuses on using a strategic combination of evidence, advocacy and accountability to save lives in Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and Tanzania.
